IP Address - An IP (Internet Protocol) address is a unique numerical label assigned to each device connected to a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication. It identifies the device and allows data to be sent and received by that device. An IP address is a string of numbers and dots that identifies a device’s location on a network. There are two types of IP addresses: IPv4 (32-bit) and IPv6 (128-bit). IPv4 is the most widely used and is structured in a dotted-decimal format (e.g. 192.168.1.1). IP addresses can be static (fixed) or dynamic (temporary), and are used by applications and services to route traffic to specific devices on a network.
